The Scarlet Flower is a Russian version of the classic Beauty and the Beast narrative.  A traveling merchant stumbles upon a silver and gold palace.  There, he picks a beautiful red flower for his youngest daughter, Nastenka, not realizing that the flower belongs to the Beast of the Forest.  To make up for the theft, Nastenka goes to live in the Beast s opulent palace.  Eventually, her love breaks the spell upon the Beast, revealing that he is a prince.
